Happy Friday! Now that we are almost a quarter through the year, I'm sure you've heard your student play their instrument at home more than ever. Thank you so much for making the adjustments and sacrifices to find a safe place for them to work on their musicianship at home. Aside from a few technology issues here and there, class has been going well and students are on the path of growing as a musician. Be sure to ask your student to listen to their duet project from this week to hear how we are still able to create music with others online! Next week we will start our small ensemble projects with patriotic music for our Annual Veteran's Day Concert. Also ask them how they are doing on their "Matrix Packet," our new curriculum that has every student working on short pieces that challenge them at their own individual level.
Upcoming In-Person Night Rehearsals
We are excited to offer a couple evenings of in-person rehearsal this month.
On Tuesday Oct 27 and Thursday Oct 29 we will bring in half of the band for a fun night of music making outside in the stadium. We will have time to connect in our sections, rehearse some music, and have a halloween costume contest! Stay tuned for which sections are scheduled for each night and the times.
Additionally, we will be hosting two 8th grade band nights on Tuesday Oct 20 and Thursday Oct 22. We will be asking some leaders and a couple freshmen to help us out each night. Both events will be outside in the stadium.
Parent Teacher Conferences
We enjoyed meeting with many of you last night at the online parent teacher conferences. We also realize that the time slots filled up very quickly and many people were unable to schedule a conference with us. Since we don't have the usual opportunities to catch up or chat at a football game or before/after a concert, we'd like to make an extra attempt to find time to meet with you. We especially want to make an effort to connect with all of the parents of freshmen so we can get to know more about your students.
CLICK HERE to sign up for a 10-min time slot with Mr. Hutter between 6-9pm on Tuesday Oct. 13th.
If your student is in Mr. Nix or Mr. Meyer's class and you'd like to schedule an extra meeting, please contact them directly.
Private Lessons
Now that everyone has settled into the new normal and has their schedules figured out, it's a great time to start private lessons. Contact a private teacher from our list below to set up a time for lessons.

Music Boosters
First, please mark your calendar for a fundraiser at City BBQ on Oct. 14th. I'll send out the exact details and coupon next week so it's fresh in your mind.
Also, please read the note below from our Music Booster Organization and consider becoming a member.
Hello! We are reaching out again to thank you for supporting the Maine South Music Boosters program in the past and we hope that you will consider supporting our music students again this year. Like many organizations we are facing greater challenges without in-person fundraising events this year. We hope you will continue your membership to help provide for music education during the 2020-2021 school year. Donations can be made using the attached form or on our website. A huge thank you to the families who have already contributed!
Thank you for your consideration,
