Band Parents and Students,
Thanks again to everyone that tuned in for our live meeting last week, watched the recorded video, and/or read the supporting documents. We appreciate the time and energy you are putting into preparing for our season.
We wanted to share a couple updates with you regarding our camp next week and the season ahead. First, you may have seen that IHSA has postponed the high school football season until the "Spring" (starting Feb 15) while allowing other non-contact fall sports to continue within certain restrictions. This will have somewhat of an effect on our Spring but it will not derail our current plans for camp. We will cross the Spring Football bridge when we get there and figure out what is the best way for us to be involved when we have a clearer picture of the circumstances at that time.
For now, we will shift our focus of camp to complete our goals of 1) making great music, 2) making great social connections, and 3) making great Hawks, in just slightly different ways. For our veteran students, it'll be important to come in with a clear set of expectations of what we are going to accomplish at camp this year compared to goals from previous years. Instead of learning a ton of drill and focusing on completing a halftime show, we will invest our time in other ways to learn our traditional and new music, connect with old friends, and make new friends. Think of it more as a band orientation rather than a full on traditional marching band camp.
Some school districts have reversed their decision and have decided to go from a hybrid model to a fully remote model for starting the school year. If we learn that any changes are made and District #207 decides to begin fully remote, we anticipate that school activities will continue as planned. It is doubtful that we would revert back to a Phase 2 “shelter-in-place” status. We will continue to update you, regardless of our status, on any changes.
The only minor change we have made since we last communicated is that we will ask for only 2 of the 3 woodwind sections to attend Weds-Fri next week and combine the trumpet and mellophone section those days. Based on staffing and available areas, we will only be able to accommodate two sections at a time. Here is the slightly adjusted week one schedule:

School Owned Instrument Rentals
We had a steady stream of renters last Thursday but there are still a few students that need to pick up a rental instrument. We will have another rental night tomorrow, Sunday Aug 2 from 5-6pm. I will meet you outside in front of the auditorium at that time.
